Extremely pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) continues to unfold in Kansas, because the presence of the virus was confirmed in two business upland gamebird flocks.
Each affected flocks, in response to the US Division of Agriculture (USDA) Animal and Plant Well being Inspection Service (APHIS), have been in Mitchell County. One flock concerned 32,000 birds and the opposite concerned 3,700.
The circumstances have been confirmed by APHIS on January 10.
Seven days earlier, a business desk egg layer pullet flock in Rice County was affected by HPAI, with 240,000 birds within the flock. Rice County is in central Kansas, whereas Mitchell County is in north-central Kansas.
Kansas had 5 business flocks affected by HPAI in 2023 and one in 2022.
Thus far in 2024, three U.S. states have had business flocks affected by HPAI. Along with the three flock infections in Kansas, California has had three and Wisconsin has had one.
