On 17 February 2022, this Eurasian Wigeon fed amongst some 20 American Wigeon alongside the dike path on the Billy Frank Jr Nationwide Wildlife Refuge. These geese are “pretty widespread winter residents” in western Washington (Wahl et al. 2005). These authors estimate that about one out of each 400 wigeons listed here are this species. Not recognized to breed in North America—birds that winter alongside the West Coast are assumed to have nested in jap Asia. For unknown causes, this duck’s inhabitants has elevated since 1965.
